P2X Solutions has purchased four hectares of land for Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen and synthetic methane production facility from the city of Harjavalta. The transaction was signed in Harjavalta on 3 May 2022.
Green hydrogen and its downstream products enable significant emission reductions and secure energy self-sufficiency by promoting the exit from fossil fuels, in e.g. land and maritime transport and industry. P2X Solutions is building Finland’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen and synthetic methane production plant in Harjavalta Industrial Park. The company’s CEO Herkko Plit says that the preparations for the transaction went well.
“In our experience, the City of Harjavalta is very positive about our project and business in general. Together with the city, we share the goal of boldly building a Finnish welfare society. It was easy to find a solution that was favourable to all parties to the need for land. We appreciate the City of Harjavalta and The Industrial Park for being at the cutting edge in creating a green hydrogen economy ecosystem in our country,” says Plit.
Construction of P2X Solutions’ 20 MW plant will begin in the fall of 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024. The direct and indirect employment effects of the construction phase of the project will be approximately 350 person-years. Upon completion of the project, approximately 50 permanent jobs are expected to be created, including jobs directly or indirectly related to the facility or its operations.

The Harjavalta green hydrogen production plant reduces Finland’s CO2 emissions by about 40 thousand tons per year, and the heat and oxygen generated as by-products can be utilized in industrial processes. The company’s goal is to build 1,000 MW of electrolysis capacity over the next 10 years, and the design of subsequent plants has already begun.
