P2X Solutions and Q Power continue their cooperation at P2X Solutions’ Harjavalta production site, where commercial eMethane production is underway. Following the successful delivery, commissioning and handover of the methanation plant earlier this year, the companies have signed a maintenance agreement covering the plant’s core methanation technology.
P2X Solutions operates the plant, converting renewable hydrogen produced at its Harjavalta site and captured CO₂ into eMethane. Q Power designed, manufactured and delivered the plant using its patented solid-state biological methanation technology.
Commercial production backed by long-term demand
P2X Solutions’ Harjavalta site holds ISCC EU RFNBO certification for renewable hydrogen and methane production. Its ten-year eMethane offtake agreement with avanca/Alternoil covers the methanation plant’s current production capacity, and deliveries to the European heavy road transport market began in October 2026.
Together, certified production and long-term customer demand demonstrate that RFNBO eMethane is entering commercial fuel markets.
” The start of commercial eMethane production at Harjavalta was an important milestone for P2X Solutions and for the wider renewable fuels market. The maintenance agreement with Q Power supports reliable operations and possible future expansion of the Harjavalta plant ,” says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solution.
“Bringing pioneering plants into operation requires close cooperation between the producer and its technology partners. We appreciate the work carried out by both teams and look forward to continuing the partnership and discussing even further cooperation,” Herkko Plit continues.
From Finnish research to commercial operation
For Q Power, the delivery marks the transition from research and piloting to its first commercial industrial-scale methanation plant. The technology’s development journey began with research in Finland in late 2000s.
“Seeing an innovation developed in Finland progress from laboratory research to a commercial plant is a major milestone. Harjavalta builds on years of research, reactor development and piloting, with P2X Solutions’ pioneering investment enabling the step into commercial operation,” says Anni Alitalo, R&D Director of Q Power.
Under the maintenance agreement, Q Power will provide services for the core methanation technology, supporting P2X Solutions beyond delivery and commissioning.
“Pioneers like P2X Solutions are essential to bringing renewable fuels to market. This project has strengthened our experience and readiness for further deliveries. We value the trust placed in us and look forward to continuing our support during commercial operation,” says Marko Niskanen, Technical Director of Q Power.
