P2X Solutions and avanca/Alternoil sign landmark E-Methane Offtake Agreement with deliveries starting in Q4 2026

P2X Solutions and avanca/Alternoil have entered into a long-term e-methane agreement with deliveries starting in Q4/2026. P2X Solutions will supply synthetic methane produced in Harjavalta to avanca/Alternoil to be used as fuel for the road transport. With this agreement, the current production capacity of the Harjavalta methanation plant will be sold out for the next 10 years.

The Finnish green hydrogen and synthetic fuels pioneer P2X Solutions and avanca Energy AG, one of Europe’s largest renewable LNG platforms, with its subsidiaries avanca Renewables AG and Alternoil GmbH, have entered into a long-term partnership for the supply of synthetic methane.

Starting in October 2026, P2X Solutions will begin delivering synthetic methane to avanca/Alternoil. The partnership also includes an intention to significantly scale up commercial cooperation in the future. One of the goals is to tenfold the delivery volume from the 2026 level.

Synthetic methane is a so-called e-fuel, and thanks to identical composition to transport gases currently in use, it serves as a key solution for reducing emissions particularly in road and maritime transport as it is totally independent from fossil fuels.

P2X Solutions produces synthetic methane at its methanation plant in Harjavalta, where green hydrogen produced by the company is further processed with captured carbon dioxide.

Clean fuel for European heavy road transport

In the first phase, the cooperation will focus on clean fuel for heavy-duty trucks. The e-methane (e-LNG) supplied by P2X Solutions will be made available directly to heavy-duty vehicles via the avanca/Alternoil renewable REEFUEL network. Avanca/Alternoil will make the first commercial e-LNG available to its customers in 2026.

As a pioneer in renewable fuels, avanca Renewables AG manages the portfolio by sourcing bio-LNG and e-methane and coordinating partnerships in the upstream production sector throughout Europe. Alternoil operates Germany’s largest renewable LNG distribution network, comprising 56 fueling stations and more than 120 dispensing points, available 24/7 nationwide. Together, avanca Energy AG and its subsidiaries cover the entire process from production to refueling, supported by logistics with nationwide buffer stocks and an own maintenance team.

“With P2X Solutions, we are establishing a long-term supply partnership that strategically secures our e-LNG procurement. This collaboration enables us to integrate additional large volumes of green energy sources into Europe’s logistics chains in a predictable manner while consistently pursuing our decarbonization goals. In this way, we ensure economic security of supply, strengthen our market position across the entire value chain, and send a strong signal in support of expanding climate-friendly alternatives in the energy market,” says Jürgen Muhle, CEO & Chairman of the Board of avanca Energy AG.

“Our great partnership with avanca marks a defining moment for e-methane. The plant is in operation, and deliveries start in a couple of months. Together, we strengthen Europe’s energy self-sufficiency and produce clean fuels on industrial scale to power heavy-duty trucks across the region,” says Herkko Plit, Founder and CEO of P2X Solutions.

Climate targets expected to increase demand in the near future

In May 2026, Germany decided on a 10 percent mandate by 2040 for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels in road transport as part of the country’s plan to comply with the EU’s RED III directive. The market demand generated by Germany’s decision alone is massive compared to current production capacity.

“Germany is now setting an example for other EU countries with predictable, ambitious, and feasible regulation to achieve the union’s climate targets. Other EU countries will follow as they begin to implement their own measures. At the same time, there is an urgent need to scale up production capacity for clean fuels, as many pioneering companies in Europe are now interested in Finnish producers. This creates an excellent export opportunity for Finland, as the conditions for producing green hydrogen and synthetic fuels here are exceptionally good,” Plit concludes.
