Green hydrogen pioneer P2X Solutions has been delivering green hydrogen to the Jyväskylä hydrogen refueling station since summer 2025. Jyväskylä is operating Finland’s first hydrogen buses in pilot use as part of the city’s public transport system. The refueling station is currently in pilot operation, supplying hydrogen not only to buses but also to a limited number of passenger vehicles already in service, including taxis.

The start of hydrogen bus operations in Jyväskylä is an important milestone, as it also enables the broader development of hydrogen mobility across Finland. Hydrogen buses create steady demand for the new fuel and provide a foundation for expanding to other user groups.

“A bus powered by green hydrogen is one solution for reducing the carbon footprint of public transport and lowering urban exhaust emissions. It is a great honor for us to supply fuel to Finland’s first refueling station from our green hydrogen production plant in Harjavalta. Other city regions should look to Jyväskylä’s inspiring example and boldly pilot future modes of mobility,” says Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.

The launch and coordination of the Jyväskylä hydrogen bus and hydrogen refueling station pilots is the responsibility of Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof) and is currently operated by Cefmof Hydrogen Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cefmof. Cefmof has also overseen the procurement of the buses used in the pilot. The project partners also include the bus operator Koiviston Auto Jyväskylä, bus manufacturer CaetanoBus, and Linkki, the organisation responsible for public transport in the Jyväskylä region.

“We want to enable city-level pilots that generate concrete insights into clean mobility solutions under Finnish conditions. Collaboration with P2X Solutions is a key part of building the green hydrogen ecosystem – without access to hydrogen, there is no use for it. We are gaining valuable experience in green hydrogen delivery, refueling processes and the operation of hydrogen buses. These shared learnings move the entire sector forward. We will openly share our experiences with other stakeholders to support the development of the industry,” says Lauri Perämäki, Deputy Executive Director of Cefmof.
